The Richard Lopez Trio with vocalist Debra Tucker
An active jazz and classical performer, Richard is currently Musical Director of the exciting “Jazz Masters Series” at the Columbus Museum of Art, where he produces monthly concerts which feature Columbus’ finest jazz players in theme based and jazz all star showcase concerts. In recent performances Richard Lopez has appeared in a Duo piano concert with Bobby Floyd at Otterbein University and with the Columbus Community Orchestra, under conductor Olev Viro in Ravel’s Concerto in G. He can be heard locally at popular restaurants such as Barcelona, Blackpoint and Hyde Park.
Currently a faculty member at Otterbein College and Denison University, Lopez has also taught at the University of Akron, Ohio State University and at Capital University. He has produced two CDs “The Richard Lopez Trio: Live at Rigsby’s”, “Too Far North”, a jazz quartet, which performs Lopez’s original compositions in clubs and jazz festivals.
The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. The style flowing from the wild timbre of her big range is entirely her own thing. Debra has appeared in the Theatre des Westens production of Porgy and Bess and sung back up vocals with Michael Bolton. She has appeared with Opera Columbus in its commissioned opera Vanqui and at the acclaimed Quasimodo jazz club in Berlin. She has appeared with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and with countless jazz artists, notably recording with saxophonist Vince Andrews and keyboardist David Ornette Cherry.

A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Debra is committed to using law and art to effect social change. She dedicates herself to working with young artists and has been artist in residence with Short Stop Youth Center and Days of Creation-Arts for Kids. Debra is the writer/performer of Survival of the Boulevard Singer– winner of the Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence.She has been visiting Professor in music history at Denison University and a faith organizer for Equality Ohio. She currently coordinates the Gospel Soul Brunch at Natalie’s in Worthington Ohio.
