PIT (Pride in Training) Crew
PIT Crew is a high-level volunteer position for those who want to learn more about what goes into planning Pride and are interested in being a part of the Pride Committee later. Volunteers participate with the Pride Committee and are mentored by one of the Committee Members on what it takes to organize and run a festival and parade of this size. Columbus Pride is the second largest Pride festival and parade in the Midwest and is a great way to give back to the community. As a member of PIT Crew, you will have the opportunity to help put on Columbus Pride and will have a direct impact on the festival and parade. Must fill out an application and complete an interview process. Plan on some level of time commitment from April through June, including most of Pride Festival weekend. Pride 2017 will be held on June 16th and June 17th at Genoa/Bicentennial Park.
GENERAL VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION WILL OPEN IN APRIL
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 2017 Columbus Pride festival! Our registration site is currently CLOSED. For any Pride related questions, go to columbuspride.org.
If you would like to volunteer at the Pride festival, please come to the Volunteer Tent (location tbd) and we will help get you registered to volunteer during Pride weekend. Walk-ins are limited and participants are strongly encouraged to register to volunteer in advance.
Parking can be tricky over Pride weekend, especially for out-of-towners. We recommend carpooling if possible and arriving early. There are several parking garages in the arena district and downtown that will be available. Check out http://www.columbuspride.org/
travel/parking to see where we recommend to park. With that in mind, it may take 10-15 minutes to walk to the park.
You will probably be asked to make a donation when you enter the park. As a volunteer, you are not required to pay admission for the festival. However, if you do want to make a small donation that is a good time to do it. Suggested donations for the festival are $10 per day.
The Volunteer Tent’s location can be found at http://www.columbuspride.org/
festival, on the zoomed in portion. The tent will be bright orange near TBD.
Please be at least 15 minutes early to your shift! That will give you time to change into you FREE volunteer t-shirt, which will be given to you upon check-in at the Volunteer Tent. There will be a private, single-stall changing area for you inside the tent. We ask that you do not consume alcoholic beverages during your shift and while you are wearing your volunteer t-shirt. Please remember that whenever you are wearing your volunteer shirt you are acting as a representative of Stonewall Columbus, the Pride Festival, and our community.
After check-in, we will connect you with your specific role and tasks. We will also let you know who to talk to if you have any questions or concerns.
Personal items CANNOT be left unattended in the Volunteer Tent. We have limited space for all 500 of our volunteers, and even fewer eyes to watch over your items. We ask that you leave anything you do not need for the festival at home, and anything you do bring should be with you at all times. We are not responsible for anything left unattended in the Volunteer Tent.
Dress for the weather! Wear comfortable shoes. Use sunscreen. Stay hydrated. At the volunteer tent, as our way of saying thank you for all your help we will have food, water, pop, a place to sit and some shade. Before or after your shift we invite you to come spend some time with us at the volunteer tent, but please only utilize the space while you are volunteering. Relax, meet some fellow volunteers and celebrate your contribution to Pride.
- Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the festival!
